Porthdinllaen Team wins major fishing event !

Team Guillemot, from Porthdinllaen, were the outright winners in this years annual Porthdinllaen RNLI Mackeral Race.

Team Guillemot: l-r Steve Hoyle, Maurice McLoughlin, Katy Hoyle, Peter Dick with the trophy.

Fishing an ebb tide, on an evening when the fish were scarce, the team managed to catch 226 fish to win this prestigious event, after many years of trying.

"It's been always the bridesmaid, never the bride in previous years " said skipper Steve. " We have always been in the top three each year we have entered, until this time. The old mackeral marks combined with a great crew and modern tackle paid dividends."

Peter " the fish whisperer" Dick, said " It wasn't looking good, for the first 40 minutes, we only had 9 fish. Then, a short move to a new spot proved the answer, the fish were flying in at a vast rate and we never looked back"

The event raised over £350 for the Porthdinllaen branch of the Institute and was organised by Simon Jones.
